This project involved the positioning and delivery of a 40ft shipping container in a location with limited access and restricted manoeuvring space.
The operation was carried out using a sideloader configured to operate exclusively from the driver’s side, requiring precise planning and controlled execution.
Site Constraints and Challenges
The working area presented multiple limitations:
- Restricted manoeuvring space around the trailer
- Forward access blocked, limiting positioning options
- No alternative space available for temporary container placement
- Grass surface providing adequate but non-ideal ground conditions
Due to the nature of the equipment, all loading and unloading had to be completed from the driver’s side, with no flexibility for repositioning from the opposite side.
Positioning and Execution
The process began with controlled reversing to align the trailer with the container while maintaining correct driver-side access.
Adjustments were made to optimise positioning and avoid surrounding obstacles. Once alignment was achieved, the operation progressed to the final placement stage using controlled movement to engage the correct drop point.
The container was then unloaded using the sideloader, maintaining stability and alignment throughout the process. This job highlights several key principles in container transport:
- Planning positioning in advance based on site limitations
- Maintaining correct alignment for driver-side-only operations
- Using controlled momentum to assist with positioning
- Adapting to ground conditions such as grass surfaces
- Ensuring stability during loading and unloading
