Moving a Tiny Home is very different from towing a conventional trailer or caravan. While a Tiny Home may appear relatively small compared with a heavy truck or machinery, its structural integrity, suspension, running gear, coupling and overall construction all need to be considered before and during transport.
Recently, Red Tow was engaged to relocate a larger Tiny Home from south-west Victoria to north-east Victoria. The Tiny Home was approximately 4.5 tonnes and carried on three axles, making it a substantial Tiny Home from a transport and structural perspective.
Before starting the relocation, Red Tow carried out an onsite assessment to identify potential risks and determine how the Tiny Home could be transported safely. The job was carefully planned around the capabilities and limitations of both the Tiny Home and the towing equipment.
For this type of work, Red Tow uses a high-capacity Heavy Recovery Tow Truck with specialist Underlift capability. The reason is simple: successful Tiny Home transport is not just about having enough power to pull the load.
A smaller tow truck may be capable of pulling a Tiny Home along a road. However, a professional relocation may involve tight access, difficult positioning, unexpected conditions, suspension limitations or other issues that require additional lifting, manoeuvring and recovery capability.
Our approach is to plan the complete relocation from A to B, while also having contingencies and a Plan B available if circumstances change.
