At Red Tow, we are often called to manage difficult relocations where standard towing equipment simply won’t do the job. Recently, we were engaged by Manheim Auctions in Laverton to load and transport a badly wrecked DAF prime mover. With the vehicle heavily damaged and unable to roll or steer, this job required the combined effort of our SuperTilt tilt deck trailer and our EFFER crane truck.
The Challenge
The prime mover had sustained significant damage, making it unsafe to tow conventionally. Standard underlift recovery was not suitable — the only option was to self-load the wreck using our SuperTilt and crane. Jobs like this demand careful planning, secure rigging, and the right balance of winching and lifting power.
The Recovery Process
Our SuperTilt trailer, equipped with dual hydraulic winches, was positioned to take the load. Both winches were used in tandem to carefully pull the damaged DAF onto the tilt deck. At the same time, our EFFER crane truck assisted with stabilisation and lift support to prevent the wreck from shifting dangerously during loading.
Once loaded and secured, the unit was transported safely from the auction yard. At the delivery site, the process had to be reversed — crane support and winching combined again to unload the wreck without causing further damage or risk.
