Red Tow and Container Solutions recently completed a complex end-to-end transport and installation project involving a large imported 30ft expandable home. This project demonstrates the specialised equipment, planning and coordination required when transporting imported modular and expandable buildings from the wharf through to their final position on site.

The operation began with the imported FCL shipping container being collected from the wharf. Red Tow and Container Solutions managed the container logistics, including bringing the FCL off the wharf, transporting it to our facility, unpacking the expandable home and its loose contents, and arranging the de-hire of the empty shipping container.

Once the container was unloaded, the next challenge was removing the 30ft expandable home safely and efficiently.

Specialist SuperTilt and Reach Stacker Unloading

A large expandable home cannot simply be treated like a conventional containerised item. Once packed inside the shipping container, access and lifting points can present significant challenges.

For this project, Red Tow used a specialised unloading method combining our SuperTilt with a Reach Stacker. This allowed the expandable module to be extracted from the shipping container under controlled conditions and transferred onto the SuperTilt.

The method provided full control of the module throughout the unloading process, avoiding unnecessary handling and providing a controlled transition from the shipping container to the transport equipment.

This type of specialist equipment and experience is particularly valuable when handling imported expandable homes, modular buildings, portable buildings and other oversized structures that are not designed to be unloaded using conventional methods.

Why the Transport Required Multiple Pieces of Equipment

After unloading, the next stage was transporting the 30ft expandable module to its destination.

Because the module was over 20 metres? — correction: over 20 feet long, our 8×4 crane truck could not legally transport the module in its original configuration. This required another carefully planned solution.

The SuperTilt was used to transport the oversized module from our facility to the next stage of the operation. At the appropriate location, our large Effer 43TM crane truck was brought in to perform a controlled cross-load.

The Effer crane lifted the expandable home from the SuperTilt and cross-loaded it onto the 8×4 crane truck, allowing the module to continue its journey to the final destination.

This combination of equipment demonstrates why specialist transport planning is so important for large modular and expandable homes. The most suitable equipment for unloading is not necessarily the same equipment required for the final delivery and placement.

Final Delivery and Crane Placement

At the destination, the 8×4 crane truck positioned the expandable home ready for the final lift.

The Effer 43TM crane was then used to lift the module from the truck and carefully place it onto the pre-prepared concrete platforms at the building site.

With the foundations already prepared, the crane operation allowed the module to be positioned accurately onto its designated supports.

The result was a complete logistics operation covering the entire journey:

Wharf → FCL transport → Container unpacking → Empty container de-hire → Specialist unloading → SuperTilt transport → Crane cross-load → Final transport → Crane placement.

Complete Expandable Home Transport Solutions

This project highlights the advantage of using a transport company capable of coordinating the entire process, rather than treating each stage as a separate job.

Red Tow and Container Solutions can provide specialised solutions for imported expandable homes, modular homes, portable buildings, tiny homes, containerised buildings and oversized structures.

Our equipment and services can include FCL container transport, container unpacking, Reach Stacker operations, SuperTilt transport, heavy vehicle transport, crane truck transport, cross-loading and precision crane placement.

Every imported modular building presents its own challenges depending on its dimensions, weight, transport configuration, access requirements and final installation location. Careful planning before the equipment arrives on site can make a major difference to the safety, efficiency and overall cost of the operation.

This 30ft expandable home project is another example of Red Tow and Container Solutions providing a complete transport and logistics solution from import container to final placement.
