At Red Tow, we’re always investing in the next generation of heavy recovery equipment — and our latest build is proof of that commitment. This new project is all about creating a second 8×4 Freightliner Argosy Prime Mover fitted with a PM 40-tonne-metre crane and full towing capability.
Duplicating Our Proven Heavy Tow Setup
Our existing fleet has proven itself across Melbourne’s heavy recovery scene — from underlift tows to SuperTilt and crane operations. The new Argosy build will duplicate that successful formula, offering even greater flexibility for recovery, salvage, and transport jobs across Victoria.
We’ve sourced a younger 8×4 Argosy prime mover, giving us a solid foundation for this multi-role truck. The PM40 crane was temporarily mounted last week, allowing it to travel safely to Sydney for professional crane fitment and certification — the first step in a complex but exciting build.
Multi-Purpose Capability
Once completed, this truck won’t just be a crane truck. It will be able to:
- Operate as a dedicated crane unit for container lifts, equipment relocations, and salvage recoveries.
- Tow and power our SuperTilt trailer using its PTO and hydraulic systems.
- Accept a Detachable Towing Unit (DTU), transforming it into a fully functional heavy tow truck — our second underlift-capable recovery rig alongside the Mack Titan.
